Police Investigating Chaos at Borås Arena During Elfsborg vs Djurgården Match

The police are currently investigating the chaotic scenes that erupted at Borås Arena during Sunday’s match between Elfsborg and Djurgården. When away supporters were searched, staff found pyrotechnics in their underpants. The discovery prompted staff to remove one of the supporters, leading to tumultuous scenes. The riot fence was torn down and new supporters could pour in unvisited.

Borås police’s preliminary investigation leader Per Torstensson believes that they have been spared from violence in recent times.

– My theory is that it was because Djurgården’s ultras are turning 20 and wanted to manifest it with pyrotechnics, he says to Borås Tidning.

A security guard, who has spoken to BT, says that his colleague was kicked in the head in connection with the violence and that he himself had a banger thrown at him.

Per Torstensson is not aware of any law enforcement officers having been injured during the violence. The supporter from Germany, who is deemed to have acted as the instigator, is now in custody and further interrogations will be held with him during the day.

The police are analyzing the large amount of surveillance footage captured by the riots, while trying to gather witness information.
