Police investigate possible powder letter at Purmerend town hall | NOW

The mail room of the town hall in Purmerend was evacuated Monday morning after a threatening letter with an unknown substance had arrived. The police are currently investigating the possible powder letter, a spokesperson told NU.nl.

The investigation is being conducted by a specialized unit, according to the police spokesperson.

Postal office staff drew the attention of the police to the letter. It is not yet known whether the possible powder letter is also toxic. As far as we know, none of the employees have health complaints, the police spokesperson reports.

After an initial investigation, the police concluded around 11.00 am that no further evacuation or immediate action is needed. The work in the rest of the town hall continues as far as is known. The town hall is also open again for visitors.

The security region reports that the mayor has personal contact with the employees involved.

Earlier in the day, the fire brigade was also on site, reports the safety region Twitter. They have now left the investigation to the police.
