Police closed Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square due to demonstrations

“The Old Town Square is closed and all people have to go through a check. He who does not have a valid exception will not get further. People passing through here had to submit a certificate, “the News reporter reported before the demonstration began.

Police have confirmed that security measures are taking place in the squares. “Only residents who have a permanent residence or domicile in Prague can enter. A person who does not reside in the district of Prague cannot come there, because the right to gather is only in their district. Some still submit paper that they go on a part-time job and the like. These documents are evaluated individually, “police spokesman Jan Daněk told Novinka.

The demonstration on Wenceslas Square is organized by the We Together initiative from 1 p.m. Non-attached Members Lubomír Volný and Marin Bojko also take part. In the invitation to the event, the organizers stated that “freedom is threatened to the greatest possible extent”.

On Sunday afternoon, the I Wanted Dog initiative convened another demonstration in the Old Town Square, which calls for the protection of democracy, freedom and humanity. It also demands the resignation of the government.

“At a time when all democratic principles have failed and the opposition, which is voting for devastating laws, the responsibility lies with us ordinary people. Let’s defend the repetition of history, when cowardice won over responsibility, “said the organizers of the protest on the invitation.

Police have already announced that they are ready for demonstrations. “The main goal of the police will be to ensure peace, public order and supervision of compliance with government regulations,” said police spokesman Jan Daněk, adding that the demonstration will be supervised by, among other things, an anti-conflict team.

Current government measures restrict the right of assembly. There must be no more than 100 people in the demonstration, groups of a maximum of 20 participants and must keep a distance of at least 2 meters. During the demonstration, it is necessary to wear an FFP2 class respirator or a surgical drape. Cloth drapes, scarves or shawls are not considered sufficient protection.
