Police arrest suspect for disturbances at Van der Wal home NOW

The police arrested a 39-year-old resident of Lochem on Wednesday evening. He is suspected of being involved in the disturbances that broke out in Hierden on Tuesday evening at the home of nitrogen minister Christianne van der Wal.

The detainee is suspected of open violence and destruction after rioting farmers broke through a police line on Tuesday evening. Van der Wal was not at home that evening, but her family was in the house.

An emergency ordinance has been in force at the minister’s house in the municipality of Harderwijk since Wednesday afternoon. The area around the house is a security risk area.

In the district, among other things, preventive searches can be carried out and people who have nothing to look for there can be sent away. The emergency ordinance applies for a week.
