Hospital workers have to drive to work due to overtime and federal regulations. A Bernese woman asked in vain for understanding and received a fine.
Medical staff at the Inselspital in Bern are working at full speed due to the corona virus. Nursing staff is particularly stressed in the current hectic operation. As in this country, workers were asked not to travel by public transport. Anja F. adheres to this principle. However, there is currently too little parking space for employees on the hospital area.
In a friendly letter, the 28-year-old informed the police about the special circumstance. “I understand you’re just doing your job … like I am,” begins her letter, which is addressed to police officers and which she placed clearly behind the windscreen of her car. In it she explains the special situation and writes: “Please be lenient with me.”
Still fined
When the Bernese comes to the car on Monday after a long shift in the hospital, a traffic ticket from Kapo Bern is stuck next to the letter. The Bernese law enforcement officers wanted F. because the car had been in the wrong place for too long.
Next to the penance, the nurse discovered a handwritten note: “In vain I tried to stop the policewoman from a park bus. I will take the buses for you.”
The note touched her a lot, says F. to “20 minutes”. “It is incredibly nice that the solidarity that we are currently demanding from the population is there.” People would help and do their part to deal with the current crisis. “It’s just beautiful.” She immediately called the author of the note: “I thanked him but refused. He certainly doesn’t have to pay for it.”
“Makes me think”
The man currently also works in the home office. “I saw the policewoman just trying to punish my car, but was just able to avert it with reference to the Corona crisis,” said the Bernese to “20 minutes”. He later realized that F. had been given a bus. “I didn’t think that was fair. The nurse had a better reason not to be punished.” That’s why he took a photo of it and published it on social media.
The nurse is not angry with the policewoman: “But it makes me think that exactly the solidarity with the police that has just been mentioned does not appear to be there.” The nursing staff are just as affected by the current situation as the police. “That’s why I don’t understand this parking penalty policy that currently prevails around the hospital.”
Hospital turns on
In the meantime, the employee no longer has to worry about the buses. The management of the hospital has already taken care of the matter. Alex Josty, spokesman for the hospital, has already been in contact with the city of Bern and the Kapo. “The situation for employees should be improved.” He was convinced that the authorities would come to an amicable solution. “And I also make the offer: I do it before our nurse has to pay the fine.”
Police apologize and say thank you
Police apologize and say thank you
The Bern cantonal police have already reacted to the case on Twitter. “More sense of proportion would have been required here,” she apologizes. Parking solutions for hospital staff were already being sought. “Regardless: Many thanks to our colleagues who do a lot of valuable things in the hospital and in the emergency services!”
