Bohumin (Karviná) Police charged a 50-year-old man arrested on Saturday in connection with a fire in a house in Bohumín for the murder and general threat. This was said by the supervising public prosecutor Michal Król. The man allegedly set the apartment on fire intentionally. The ensuing fire killed 11 people, including three children. In court, the accused, who is now in the hospital, can get life for life.
“I can confirm that the police have issued a resolution to prosecute. Now I will decide whether and when to file a motion to take the accused into custody, “said Król. He added that the decision would be made the moment he studied the file he was now waiting for.
According to available information, the motive for the arson attack was family disputes. The accused was reportedly related to several victims. The plaintiff has not yet commented on the motive. He also did not comment on whether the accused confessed to the police again during the interrogation. “Everything is the content of the file, which I do not have available now,” he said.
He added that the police accused the man of murder and general danger. In both cases, the legal qualification is chosen according to the strictest paragraphs. In court, the accused can receive an exceptional sentence, including life imprisonment.
It began to burn on Saturday afternoon on the eleventh floor of the Bohumín prefabricated house. A birthday party was held in the affected apartment. An arsonist also took part in it. According to the available information, the motive for the arson attack was family disputes. Experts found traces of flammability near the apartment. That’s why the fire most likely spread so quickly. Six victims were burned in the apartment, five people died after jumping out the window.
