Ukrainian offers Drone Safety Advice to Poland Following Incursion

WARSAW,⁢ POLAND – ‍ Following the downing ⁣of Russian drones over Polish territory on Wednesday night, a Ukrainian citizen has shared vital safety advice on social media ⁣aimed at helping Polish ⁣residents minimize risk during drone attacks. Oksana, posting under the handle @Oksii33 on X (formerly Twitter), published a thread of nine⁢ recommendations, drawing from experience gained during the ⁢ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The advice⁣ comes as Poland and its allies ‍scrambled to intercept drones identified as Shaheds, prompting airspace ⁢closures and ⁢raising concerns about potential escalation. Oksana’s post, accompanied ‍by a link to a detailed guide, offers practical steps individuals can take to protect themselves ⁢in the event of a drone attack, ⁣emphasizing speed and decisive action.

Here are Oksana’s nine recommendations:

1. React Immediately to the Sound: If you hear a quiet, buzzing sound, act quickly, as a drone⁤ can be overhead within 30 seconds.

2. Avoid Recording Attacks: “No video is worth your life.⁢ Hide the phone. Šrapnel does not warn, kills.”

3. Move Away From windows: Broken glass ‌from impact is extremely hazardous. Move as‌ far from windows as possible, ideally to the center of a room.

4.⁣ Seek Shelter Behind walls: find ⁣two fixed walls between yourself and the street. A bathroom⁤ without windows ⁢or a hallway are preferable to ‌a kitchen ⁢with windows.

5. Lie on the Floor: cover your head with your hands to ⁢protect against shrapnel, which travels in an⁢ arch.

6.Stay Low When Outdoors: Fences and‌ shrubs offer little⁣ protection. Lie down behind a concrete wall or in any available depression. If nothing else is available, lie flat⁢ on the ground.

7. If in a Vehicle,‌ Seek Immediate Shelter: Turn off the engine and lights, as these attract drones.⁣ Leave the vehicle‌ and find shelter in a hallway, attic, near a window sill, curb, or under ⁢the car.

8. ‍Protect Your ears and Mouth: Cover your‌ ears and open your mouth to mitigate the effects of a pressure wave, possibly saving your hearing.9. Remain Sheltered for at least 10 Minutes: The second strike is frequently enough the most dangerous.Silence⁢ after an initial explosion can be deceptive; remain sheltered.
