This will be the first martial law introduced in the history of a free Poland, said Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminsky.

The Polish government sent a request to the President of the country Andrzej Duda with a proposal to introduce a state of emergency in the regions bordering on Belarus, writes on Tuesday, August 31, edition of Rzecz Pospolita.

According to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, it is proposed to introduce a state of emergency for 30 days in connection with the crisis situation that has developed on the Polish-Belarusian border due to the influx of refugees.

It is noted that the state of emergency will cover 115 settlements in the Podlaskie Voivodeship and 68 in Lublin. There will be a number of restrictions, in particular for entertainment and public events. Stricter rules will also be introduced regarding the right to own weapons and ammunition.

“Thanks to this, we will be able to prevent aggressive actions and provocations, which are constantly or in fact intensified by the Lukashenka regime,” the head of government said.

As the Minister of Internal Affairs Mariusz Kaminsky emphasized, if the president satisfies the request, “this will be the first martial law introduced in the history of free Poland.”

As a reminder, on August 27, due to the migration crisis on the border with Belarus, the Polish military and border guards started to build a fence from barbed wire. The fence will be built with a height of 2.5 meters and a length of 180 km.
