Bremen police carried out two major traffic checks in Walle on Wednesday and Thursday. The main concern was identifying drivers who were under the influence of drugs. The results are terrifying.
The emergency services checked a total of 466 vehicles from early Wednesday afternoon on the access road to the Überseestadt motorway and on Thursday in Bremerhavener Straße. 24 people had to undergo blood tests suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. Nine drivers did not have a valid driver’s license, and six people carried weapons such as a one-handed pistol or knife. Appropriate announcements have been made against them. The police also found violations of the drug law. In addition, police officers punished 36 traffic offenses and issued 54 warnings. With a driver, the emergency services discovered and secured an uncovered gas cylinder with leaking gas inside the vehicle. Due to the checks, it was sometimes backed up. The control measures ended around 18:00.
The results of the current checks are a warning sign and show how important these large-scale checks are. The main cause of many traffic accidents is deterioration due to psychoactive substances such as alcohol, drugs and some medications. The Bremen police will continue to carry out these checks aimed at detecting drugs in road traffic.
