Megaevolutions Return in New Pokémon TCG Expansion, Ghostly Flares
The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is bringing back Megaevolutions with its upcoming expansion, Ghostly Flares, launching November 14, 2025. The Pokémon Company announced the return of the powerful Pokémon mechanic, alongside new Pokémon ex cards and gameplay changes.
Ghostly Flares will focus on Fire and Darkness-type Pokémon, featuring the return of fan-favorite Megaevolutions including Mega-Charizard X and Mega-Gyarados. Megaevolution cards will boast increased HP, powerful attacks, and unique game effects. Too balance gameplay, defeated Megaevolutions will award opponents three prize cards.
A key change to the mechanic allows players to evolve Pokémon directly into their Megaevolutions, bypassing previous evolutionary stages – such as, evolving Riolu directly into Mega Lucario without needing Lucario first.
The Ghostly Flares expansion will include:
6 Pokémon ex megaevolution cards
4 Pokémon ex cards
13 rare Pokémon cards
17 rare and ultra-rare Pokémon ex, Trainer, and Energy cards
5 rare special illustration Pokémon ex and Supporter cards
Players of the Pokémon Live* TCG will gain early access to the expansion on November 13, with a pre-launch event beginning November 1.
