Jeju Island to Host Major Pokémon Event
Global Franchise Taps South Korean Hotspot for 2025 Initiative
Pokemon enthusiasts will soon have a new global destination to explore. South Korea’s picturesque Jeju Island is gearing up to host a series of special events designed to immerse fans in the beloved franchise.
Pokemon Takes Over Jeju
In a significant collaboration, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), Pokemon Korea, and the Jeju Tourism Organization have joined forces to launch the “2025 Pokemon Jeju Project: Pokemon Wonder Island In Jeju.” This themed extravaganza is scheduled to run from October 2 to October 26, captivating visitors at the Yeomiji Botanical Garden and the Jungmun Tourism Complex.
Revitalizing Island Tourism
Organizers unveiled the initiative on July 17, highlighting its crucial role in revitalizing tourism on the island, which has seen a decline in domestic visitors over the past three years. “We hope this initiative not only re-energizes the local tourism sector, but also introduces the global audience to a new side of the Jungmun Tourism Complex,” stated a KTO spokesperson.
Interactive Fan Experiences
The event promises a wealth of engaging activities for fans of the Japanese media franchise, known for its video games, animated series, movies, and trading card game. Highlights include a dedicated Pokemon-themed photo zone at Jeju International Airport and a Pokemon Go stamp rally.
New Pokemon Go Feature Debut
The stamp rally introduces a novel in-game feature, allowing participants to collect digital stamps at specific real-world locations. Jeju’s event marks the first time this feature will be available in South Korea, offering players the chance to win prizes as they discover the island. The rally will guide players through designated PokeStops within the Jungmun area.
Scenic Pokemon Run Planned
Adding to the festivities is the “Pokemon Run,” a family-friendly event making its South Korean debut. Participants will follow a course along the cart paths of the Jungmun golf course, enjoying stunning vistas of Jeju’s mountains and coastline.
The Pokémon franchise continues to draw massive global interest, with its most recent game, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, selling over 24 million units worldwide as of March 2024, showcasing the brand’s enduring appeal. Nintendo 2024
