A 120 fps option is now available in the Pokémon Go game to take advantage of the ProMotion screens of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.
Frame rates above 30fps are also available on older iPhones, but in both cases you’ll have to enable the option manually in settings.

Like several players on Twitter and Reddit, we spotted the feature in the update released yesterday. And in everyone, it seems to be disabled by default.
With version 1.191.0, the “advanced settings” section of the application now includes an option that explains that you can unlock the native refresh rate of your device for FPS (frame per second or frames per second) more high.
Once activated on an iPhone 13 Pro, the difference is immediately felt although Pokémon Go is not the game most in need at this level. The scrolling of the environment and the throw of pokeball is much smoother. If the novelty 120 Hz is limited to the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, which are the only iPhones with “ProMotion” screens, we can also enjoy 60 Hz on the old iPhones, which is already much better than the 30 images. per second that we have known so far in the title of Niantic.
But then, why not activate this option by default?
If the studio has not communicated anything and deactivated the default option, it is certainly to preserve the life of the battery which is already requested by the augmented reality which uses the camera, the gyroscope and the calculations of the processor.
As a reminder, Apple’s ProMotion technology, which appeared on the iPad Pro 2017 and then on the iPhone 13 this year, allows the screen refresh rate to be varied, from 10Hz to 120Hz. It’s also found on the latest 2021 MacBook Pros.
As we saw in our iPhone 13 review, ProMotion is the biggest advantage of the newer models, and a good reason to fall for one of the latest models.
PS : Yesterday’s Pokémon Go update also indicates that the game will soon no longer be compatible with devices running iOS 12. The developers encourage Trainers with Apple devices to update them in order to continue playing Pokémon GO. .
