Podcasts will try to distribute software through audio

Once upon a time, software was stored on cassette tapes. Now that time is back. At least if you can believe the podcast Radiolab’s new project Mixtape.

Part of the project is to try to send out software through audio again through the podcast section, so that the code can be received by compatible computers.

– It is unbelievable how well the ZX tape format can handle weak transcription, says Simon Goodwin The Register and continues.

– I am sure that the result will vary. This is not psychoacoustics.

Mixtape’s first episode will be published yesterday, Friday, and a new episode will be released every week and depict a part in the history of cassette tapes. The code itself will appear in a later section and listeners will be warned in advance when it will start to be heard.

It’s a secret right now what listeners who manage to get the code through audio to a ZX Spectrum, or other compatible device, will get to experience more than that it is some form of animation.
