podcasts, a phenomenon rooted in the daily lives of Americans

The podcast boom continues. In France, as in the United States, where they were born in the early 2000s. Coinciding with the development of the Internet, this new audio format really took off with the launch of This American Life, then Serial, in 2014, which are still among the most popular podcasts across the Atlantic.

The “podcaster” who currently trusts the American charts is called Joe Rogan. Varied, long-term conversations with a guest (like here in 2018 with Elon Musk), the man signed a record-breaking $ 100 million multi-year deal with Spotify, according to The Wall Street Journal. Proof that this format is establishing itself in the daily lives of Americans.

6 in 10 Americans have listened to a podcast. They are arguably their biggest consumers in the world. In 2021, there were nearly 2 million podcasts available. This is four times more than three years ago. So, some podcasts have very short lifespans, sometimes there is only one number, but the statistic is impressive: 2 million podcasts and approximately 48 million episodes.
