PLN Electricity Sales Predicted to be Negative by the End of 2020

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Electricity sales PT PLN (Persero) plummeted due to the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19).

It is estimated, electricity sales the state-owned company will remain negative until the end of 2020.

Director of Capital and Management of PT PLN (Persero), Syofvi Felienty Roekman, said that this condition was felt to be the worst in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia.

“I think not only PLN, everyone utility in this world experiencing contractions as drastic as we feel. So firstly, Covid-19 occurred in the first 2-3 months, our demand dropped significantly to a negative 10 percent, ”said Syofvi in ​​a virtual discussion, Thursday (24/9/2020).

Syofvi added that this is the first time he has experienced this condition after 27 years of working at the state electricity company.

“We just felt the negative sales growth of up to minus 10 percent yesterday. The impact is quite difficult for us at PLN, ”said Syofvi.

However, continued Syofvi, in the last few months the condition of the company’s electricity sales has begun to improve.

“Until now, the negative position is only two percent,” he said.

He is also optimistic, until the end of 2020 this will be the sales condition PLN electricity will continue to increase. Although, this condition will still be negative when compared to previous years.

“We project that until the end of the year the negatives are very small, minus about 0.5 percent. But we’re trying to stay positive. We have a pessimistic and optimistic scenario, so we range it, more or less negative 0.5 percent to plus 0.5 percent, “he said.
