The warning was conveyed by Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian, at a press conference Thursday Beijing time.
He urged the United States to stop sending the wrong signals to “Taiwan independence” forces.
Earlier, a US military transport plane landed in Taiwan on July 15. In another provocative move, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday asked the secretary of state to provide additional information in its report to Congress about efforts to help Taiwan regain its observer status at the World Health Organization (WHO).
Wu said Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory, adding that the one-China principle is the basis of Sino-US relations.
He criticized Washington for seriously interfering in China’s internal affairs, seriously harming China’s territorial sovereignty and security interests, and seriously threatening peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
“Those who play with fire will only burn themselves,” Wu warned the US. He urged Washington to stop its provocative behavior.
“China must and will be reunited,” he said CGTN, Friday (30/7/2021). “No one should underestimate the determination, will and ability of the Chinese people to defend their national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
