Players, staff and management of Ajax temporarily drop part of their salary NOW

The players, technical staff and management of Ajax temporarily surrender part of their salary. They do this to help the club financially during the corona crisis.

“We are in solidarity. In this difficult time, the club will in any case miss out on millions. We have had discussions about this. As a group of players, we think it goes without saying that we can also make a contribution,” Daley Blind said on behalf of the Players’ Council to various Dutch media on Monday.

Ajax does not make any statements about how much the players, technical staff and management give up. According to The Telegraph We are currently working out whether it only concerns a percentage over the months of March, April, May and June or whether it applies until the public is welcome again at the competitions.

The decision at Ajax is in line with the earlier advice from the employers’ organization FBO, the trade unions VVCS and ProProf and the trade union Coaches Paid Football (CBV). They recommended a collective salary reduction, which would be 20 percent for the top of the Eredivisie.

Clubs lose a lot of income

Nicolás Tagliafico recently announced that the players of Ajax are willing to hand in a salary. “We have spoken to the club management. We have agreed that if the situation remains that way, we as players will give up a certain percentage if necessary,” he told Le Monde.

As far as is known, Ajax is the first Dutch top club to cut the salaries of the players, technical staff and management. A few weeks ago, the management of PSV indicated that they will give up 20 percent in the coming period and that they are talking to the players and staff about similar measures.

The Eredivisie season cannot be completed due to the coronavirus outbreak. As a result, the clubs lose a lot of income and that can amount to tens of millions of euros if the entire next season also has to be played behind closed doors.
