The Idea For The Trip Got The 23-Year-Old Last Summer When He Was Touring With His Band In Eastern Europe Last Summer. Both In Serbia And In Budapest He Saw The Danube River.

“Here It Must Be Possible To Drive A Boat,” He thought About The 2,888 Kilometer Long River That Starts In Germany And Ends In The Black Sea.

The Danube Is Europe’s Second Longest River And Flows Through Ten Countries And Four Capitals: Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest And Belgrade.

Then He Called His Friend August to ask If He Was Ready For A Ride.

“I Thought It Was A Joke, But At Least I Thought To Talk A Little About It,” He Says.

The Idea Quickly Developed Into A Specific Plan.

In The Fall They Bought The Boat, And As Then They Have Spent every Weekend Preparing The Trip. Both Boys Have, Among Other Things, Acquired An International Boat Driver’s Certificate.

“There Are 435 Hours Of Driving And We have Calculated That We Will Use 1175 Liters Of Diesel,” Explains Nilsen.

In Their Luggage They Carry Guitars, A Bike and A Hammock.

“We Think It Is Nasty to Have If We Get A Little Tired Of Each Other,” Says The Boys.

August Berntsen Is Also From Kristiansand And Works Daily In Kindergarten.

The Two Have Known Each Other Since High School And Have Also Lived together For Three Years. They Therefore Think It Shoudl Be Okay To Stay Close To Each Other For Four Months.

August Can Still Point To Several Things.

This story highlights the spirit of adventure and the allure of exploring Europe’s waterways. The Danube River, in particular, has been a vital transportation route and a source of inspiration for centuries. This trip echoes ancient journeys of exploration and trade, but with a modern twist.
