Plácido Domingo infected with coronavirus | NOW

Opera singer Plácido Domingo (79) writes down on Sunday Facebook that he is infected with the corona virus. The Spanish artist says that he and his family are in isolation.

“Currently, our health is fine,” writes the singer, who was tested after developing a fever and a cough.

“I beg everyone to be extremely careful,” he continues his letter. “Follow the basic guidelines by washing your hands frequently, keeping a distance of 1.5 meters and above all staying at home. Together we can fight this virus and end the global crisis.”

Domingo has a singing career of over sixty years, and is known for his collaborations with Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras. In the nineties they gave several concerts like De Drie Tenoren.

The opera singer was discredited in late 2019 after anonymous sources accused him of sexual abuse. He withdrew from all planned performances of the Metropolitan Opera in New York and resigned from the Los Angeles Opera. Recently he confessed regret of the pain he has done to the women involved.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads through sneezing and cough drops. The virus can be transmitted directly from person to person or (for a limited time) through surfaces such as door handles.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Nearly all deaths involve the elderly or other frail, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
