The 33-year-old Viennese was first noticed around 6 a.m. due to tire damage on the southern autobahn (A2) near Laßnitzhöhe. The driver did not notice this, however, and undeterred continued his journey for several kilometers. A vehicle following behind was also slightly damaged by the wheel and tire parts being thrown around.
The car was already sparking in the tunnel
When the man drove into the Plabutsch tunnel near Graz, sparks were already flying from the tire damage – only then did the 33-year-old notice the defect in his vehicle and he stopped in a breakdown bay. Due to this incident, the Plabutsch tunnel had to be closed for almost an hour in the direction of Linz.
When questioned by the police, the man stated that he had consumed several alcoholic beverages in a bar. An alcohol test carried out on the 33-year-old revealed that he was heavily intoxicated. His driver’s license was taken away.
