General Chairman of the Justice and Unity Party (PKP) Yussuf Solichien said that his party would become the TNI-Polri Faction if it passed to the DPR in the 2024 election. Yussuf said his party wanted to fight for the aspirations of the TNI-Polri.
This was conveyed by the retired Indonesian Navy when he inaugurated the PKP National Leadership Council 2021-2026. He promised the soldiers prosperity if they could penetrate parliament.
“God willing, if the PKP is in a political contest, in the 2024 General Election, we pass to the parliament in Senayan, then we are ready to become the TNI-Polri Faction,” he said. quote unquote,” said Yussuf at an event in North Jakarta, Friday (24/9).
Yussuf remembers the ABRI faction in parliament during the New Order. According to him, at that time there was a special group in parliament who was tasked with fighting for the welfare of the TNI-Polri.
According to him, now there are no factions in the DPR that really fight for the welfare of the TNI-Polri. He claimed that PKP was able to fill the void.
“We are ready to be a mouthpiece for the aspirations of the TNI-Polri interests, including the welfare of their soldiers, their families, and retired officers,” he said.
When met after the event, Yussuf denied the idea of the TNI-Polri faction resurrecting dual functions which had been abolished since the reformation. He said the idea was just an illustration that the PKP sided with the progress of the TNI-Polri.
“Not returning to the past. We are ready to help you (TNI-Polri) build strength, build capacity, to carry out basic tasks,” said Yussuf.
The TNI/Polri faction once existed in Indonesian politics during the New Order. This faction became the embodiment of the dual function of ABRI which was facilitated by the Soeharto government.
When the reform took place, the abolition of the dual function of the Armed Forces became one of the people’s demands. The demand was granted by the government of President Abdurrahman Wahid in the TNI reform.
The police were separated from the ABRI. The TNI also lost political rights and was assigned to focus on handling state security. In addition, there is no longer the TNI-Polri Faction since 2004.
