Pitrītis / Reliņš enters ‘play-off’ tournament in Vilnius, Briede / Paegle – quarterfinals

Latvian beach volleyball duo Ardis Bedrītis / Arnis Reliņš will start the elimination games from the first round on Saturday in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius during the one-star stage of the World Tour, but Kristīne Briede / Krista Paegle have already reached the quarterfinals.

Bedrītis / Reliņš gave up the Lithuanian duo Roberts Juhņevičs / Artūrs Vasiljevs 0-2 (15:21, 18:21) in the fight for the first place in the group, who were awarded the first number in Vilnius, and the playoffs will start with the first round.

It has already been reported that the Latvian duo with the eighth number defeated the Poles Pyotr Grošek / Jan Krasinkski in the first group A game with 2-1 (11:21, 21:13, 15:10), who were awarded the ninth number.

While Marta Ozoliņa and Luīze Skrastiņa were waiting for their opponents in the “play-off” in the second round, they won compatriots Kristīne Briedi / Krista Paegli (number 8) 2-0 (21:16, 21:17) on Friday in the first duel of group A. 2-1 (21:18, 19:21, 16:14) – Lithuanian Viteni Vitkauskaitė / Urtu Andrjukaitīte, who was awarded the first number, Paegle and Briede had to win the fight “off” in the first round with housewives Lilija Frelika and Vladas Oganauskiena ( 10.).

The Latvians celebrated the victory with 2-1 (18:21, 22:20, 15: 8) and reached the quarterfinals, where they will meet with housewives Ieva Dumbauskaite and Karoli Virbickaitė.

All three Latvian duos participating in the competition in Vilnius will also start next week at the European Beach Volleyball Championship in Jūrmala.

In the men’s competition, this is the fourth World Tour competition after the break caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, while in the women’s competition this is the third tournament.
