Pirates push for abolition of tax exemption for “super rich”

“We strive for fair taxes and it doesn’t matter how anyone labels us. In the tax package, we also enforced an increase in the taxpayer discount of CZK 10,000, which all taxpayers earn. So I don’t think that if it is accompanied by the removal of one tax exemption for the richest ones, then it is something left-wing, “he told Novinky.

According to the current setting, all income from the sale of securities, such as shares or bonds, is exempt from tax if more than three years have elapsed between their acquisition and sale.

Ferjenčík now defends his proposal by pointing out the current discrepancy in the taxation of various types of income. “I see no reason for a person to pay about forty percent of income from work, including levies, while nothing is paid from capital income. In addition, we set a generous limit there so that it did not fall on the middle class, “he said.

According to him, the state treasury can bring up to two billion crowns.

In addition to the Pirates, representatives of the ANO, CSSD and KSCM movements also voted in favor of progressive taxation of capital income between 15 and 23 percent on Friday.

However, the subsequent approval was also a surprise for Ferjenčík himself. The pirate proposal lay in the House for more than a year, and as he added, he repeatedly called for the legislation to be discussed. Until the last moment, however, he had no support even now. “Minister (Alena Schillerová for YES – editor’s note) she changed her mind at the last minute, “he added.

At the same time, Ferjenčík indirectly admitted that the Pirates decided to take advantage of the current situation where the government budget for next year, after changing the tax package, increased its deficit by another approximately 130 billion crowns. “At a time when massive tax reforms are underway and state revenues are declining, it is worth considering whether there is a tax exemption that could be abolished somewhere,” Ferjenčík said.

He added that as far as the future is concerned, the Pirates could continue with tax changes. “We need to look at things that are legalized in the law,” he said. He cited as an example the tax deduction for life insurance, which, according to him, should be replaced by the aforementioned taxpayer discount or at least a common limit. “And the benefits of life insurance are also questionable,” he continued.

However, Ferjenčík did not directly answer the question of whether there is also the possibility that the Pirates would push for a tax increase for rich payers in the future. “It simply came to our notice then. There are so many of them that we will have enough work to do next. The moment we succeed, we will find out the state of the state treasury and think about it. But our goal is not to increase taxes, “he said in general.
