Fin Smith Extends Contract with Northampton Saints, Eyes 2027 world cup
NORTHAMPTON, UK – Fly-half Fin Smith has reaffirmed his commitment to Northampton Saints, signing a new contract with the club as he sets his sights on representing England at the 2027 Rugby World Cup. The announcement comes as smith establishes himself as a key player for both Northampton and in the international arena.
Smith joined Northampton following the collapse of Worcester Warriors as a young player, stepping into a significant role. He has as become a pivotal figure in the Saints’ success,contributing 589 points across 63 games. His performances were instrumental in Northampton’s 2023/24 Premiership Rugby Award win and their run to the final of the Investec Champions Cup.
“I have loved my time with the Saints so far,” said Smith,who has earned 11 England caps. “After everything that happened at Worcester, I was just happy to find a team. I’d like to thank Northampton for the person they’ve allowed me to be, the way I want to play the game, and the meaning they’ve given me to play here. It’s developed me in a big way.”
The 19-year-old credits the Saints with fostering his advancement and providing opportunities for international recognition,including selection for the British & Irish Lions. He believes the club’s environment will be crucial in helping him reach his full potential.
“The Saints have given me the platform to earn international honors and with the Lions,” Smith added. “I believe that continuing to believe in this environment will give me the best possibility to reach my potential. As a club, I believe we’ve been in a core group for a long time, have been for a certain period of time and can actually succeed.”
