SWR “Pierre M. Krause Show”: End of the oldest German late night show

The last new episode of the “Pierre M. Krause Show – SWR3 Latenight” will be broadcast on June 6, 2021 at 10.30 pm, after which there will be a creative summer break. In autumn, Pierre M. Krause is supposed to come back with his new show.

With the end of the “Pierre M. Krause Show” the era of the longest serving late night show on German television ends. The show started in 2003 under the name “SWR3 Ring frei!”, Moderated by the then SWR3 music director Matthias Holtmann. Just two years later, Pierre M. Krause took over the moderation. In 2007 the show was finally renamed “SWR3 latenight”. The format has only had its current title since 2016. Although the show aired for many years, it remained a niche show and so was denied a large audience.

In addition to the name of the show changed to the airtime of the show. At the beginning, the program was shown after midnight. A few years ago the change followed on Tuesday evening. The show has been running on Sunday evening since last fall. In the past few months, the “Pierre M. Krause Show” could already be viewed online a few days before it was broadcast on TV – in the ARD-Media library.

The end of the “Pierre M. Krause Show” causes disappointment among fans of the show

On Instagram, fans of the late-night show are disappointed with the end of the show under a post from the comedian. “Since May 2009 I haven’t missed an issue of you. It’s a shame that it should now come to an end … “,” As if Corona wasn’t stupid enough, does the show stop now? och nö. “The Pierre M. Krause fans can apparently hardly believe that the show should actually be canceled after all these years.

Many cannot understand the sender’s decision. “What’s wrong with the station!” Or “This station knows how to upset its audience …” are just two of many angry user reactions.

But as the saying goes – hope dies last. The fans hope for new, good projects. “So it should go on in new ways and open channels!” The competition in private television is also breaking new ground. The transmitter RTL now surprisingly announces its own hit show. (jsch)
