Picture of Kanya: When the taboo of the first menstruation still breaks a girl’s dreams

“Kanya is inspired by real events that have taken place in my life. I come from a conservative brāhmaṇa community in southern India. I remember when I first got my period, how suddenly everything in my life was so different. I wanted to capture the inner contradiction of a teenage girl who is trying to cope with this physical and mental transformation. I believe that my film has something to say to anyone, regardless of who it is or where it comes from, “explains the director, who is currently preparing her first feature film debut with the working title Change of Heart.

Indian director Apoorva Satish is a graduate of the Prague FAMU. Her film Kanya was released. It will also be on display at the Pragueshorts Film Festival.
