Pickleball Fever Sweeps Vietnam: A Rapid Rise Marked by Growing Pains
From Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, pickleball is the word on everyone’s lips in Vietnam. The sport, relatively new to the country, has exploded in popularity, but its rapid growth isn’t without its challenges [[3]].
the Unstoppable Rise of Pickleball
It’s only been a few years as pickleball was introduced to Vietnam, but its growth has been nothing short of phenomenal. What was once a niche activity is now a mainstream obsession. Tournaments are popping up at every level, and the sport’s accessibility is a major draw.
- Accessibility: Pickleball is easier to enjoy than tennis, badminton, or table tennis. It doesn’t require immense power, speed, or a specific body type.
- Space Efficiency: A tennis court can be converted into four pickleball courts, allowing more players to participate in a smaller area.
- Low Cost: Pickleball allows young people to quickly catch up with new sports trends, and meets both real and fictional demands, from costumes and equipment to winners.

Economic Impact: A Booming Market
The pickleball craze is also making waves in the Vietnamese economy. In the third quarter of 2024 alone, products with the keyword “pickleball” generated approximately 23 billion VND in the Vietnamese market, a staggering 149.5% increase compared to the previous quarter [[1]].
The Costume Controversy: Fashion on the Court
With the rise of pickleball’s popularity, a debate has emerged regarding appropriate attire. There was a time when pickleball was regarded as a new form of entertainment that men could enjoy all day with inappropriate clothes
or bluff
women. Many actors and models have become a hot topic in the online community, wearing sexy costumes and “check -in” on the pickleball court.
While stylish clothing is appreciated, some argue that “excessive clothes” can give the sport a bad reputation. Pickleball fashion, like other sports, should prioritize comfort and functionality. Pickleball players have to move a lot, so the clothes should be convenient, agreeable and can be absorbed. Of course, you should also consider the aesthetic aspects.
Unlike conventional tennis fashion, which often favors classic white, pickleball embraces bright colors, fascinating patterns, and personality. Since pickleball is not currently regulated by any unified institution, there are no rules that interfere with creativity in this “popular trend” sport.
From Table Tennis to Pickleball: A New Generation of Talent
The Vietnamese pickleball scene is attracting talent from various sporting backgrounds. The stories of two former table tennis players who won the first international competition in Indonesia, Li Min Triet and Lee Min Tan have seen many talented players, and many of them have turned from tennis to tennis. They have won many events from the invitation to the official tournament.
The increasing number of tournaments, high prize money, and the potential for international recognition are fueling the sport’s growth. The pickleball community hopes to attract world-class players to Vietnam, inspiring others and fostering further development.
The Road Ahead: Challenges and Opportunities
While pickleball’s future in Vietnam looks bright, the sport faces organizational flaws and disputes over officiating [[3]]. Addressing these issues will be crucial for sustainable growth.
