Piastri Sets Pace in Disrupted singapore Practise as Red Flags Halt FP2
Singapore – Oscar Piastri of McLaren led the second practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix, posting a fastest lap of 1m 30.714s under the night lights at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The session was repeatedly interrupted by incidents that brought out the red flags, impacting running for several drivers.
The disrupted FP2 saw Isack Hadjar finish just over one-tenth of a second behind piastri, followed closely by Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso. Title contender Lando Norris,Piastri’s McLaren teammate,secured fifth place,nearly half a second off the pace,after an unusual pit lane collision with Charles Leclerc. These times come as teams prepare for qualifying and the race, where track position and car setup are critical on the demanding Singapore circuit.
The first stoppage occurred when George Russell lost control of his Mercedes at Turn 16, making heavy contact with the barriers. Russell was able to return to the pits but did not resume participation in the session. Later, with 20 minutes remaining, Liam Lawson experienced a significant incident exiting Turn 17, damaging his Racing Bulls car and bringing it to a halt at the pit lane entrance, triggering the second red flag.
