Pianist Louis van Dijk (78) passed away | NOW

Pianist Louis van Dijk passed away on Sunday at the age of 78, his daughter, television presenter Selma van Dijk, confirms to The Telegraph. In 2017, it was announced that the winner of four Edisons, among others, suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.

Van Dijk was born in 1941 as Arnold Ludwig van Dijk in Amsterdam. In 1964, the pianist graduated with honors in classical piano from the conservatory of Amsterdam, where he subsequently obtained a soloist diploma in piano playing.

After his studies, Van Dijk mainly developed as a jazz pianist and recorded dozens of records with the Louis van Dijk trio, for which he received nineteen gold and three platinum records. In later years Van Dijk became known with the piano trio Winged Friends, together with Pim Jacobs and Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven.

For his earnings, Van Dijk was awarded the title Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion in 2000 and received a Golden Harp in 2006. The Louis van Dijk Award for talented jazz composers was named after the pianist in 2014.
