Physician resignations and emergency closing at Adela de Char Clinic due to threats

A group of emergency physicians from the Adela de Char Maternal and Child Clinic presented their resignation in solidarity for the death threats that the intensivist José Julián Buelvas received in the midst of carrying out his work.

Luis Fabregas, Secretary of Health of Soledad, reported that due to the resignation of the eight doctors, the administration of the health center – located in this municipality – closed the emergency services.

“We are already talking to the manager, we are going to talk to the doctors. They have said that they are afraid to continue exercising their tasks, but this is the moment when we need them most, that the community needs them the most, “said Fabregas.

The Secretary of Health also indicated that the 13 patients detained in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) by COVID-19 continue to receive the respective medical attention: “The intensivist doctors continue to work. I call on the medical union not to leave at this time to the Solemn community. ”

The official asked for support from the National Government to control the spread of COVID-19 in the municipality and stated that more than 85% of Soledad’s population lives on informality.

“We need more restrictive measures, that there be militarization to lower the incidence of the virus in this municipality,” added Fabregas.

Mayor Ucrós guarantees protection to doctors

Rodolfo Ucrós, Mayor of Soledad, also expressed his rejection of the threats against the doctor Buelvas, which, presumably, were made by the relative of a patient who died after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

“We strongly reject the situation experienced by a doctor who works in a clinic located in the municipality of Soledad. There is no right, there is no explanation for this type of situation to arise in our territorial entity, “said the municipal president.

Ucrós also indicated that “” we Soledeños are very sore by this situation and we join the national solidarity that this situation has generated “, emphasizing that they will provide accompaniment and protection to medical personnel.

“Respect, accompany, surround each and every one of the medical specialists so that they can continue to carry out their work, which is essential at this time,” added the mayor.

Lastly, the president demanded “the quickest response from the authorities and we ask the National Police to quickly and efficiently find the whereabouts of the perpetrators of this act.”
