The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited One World Trade Center on Thursday, September 23, before heading to a school in Harlem the following Friday. The couple’s first public outing since leaving British royalty.

Since retiring from active life as members of the British Royal Family and moving to California, Meghan Markle and the prince harry no longer make public appearances. Hidden behind the walls of their 3.6 hectare estate in Montecito, they made an exception, Thursday, September 23, to go to New York, where they must stay for several days.

Twenty bodyguards

Parents ofArchie and Lilibet visited the One World Trade Center, built on the ruins of the twin towers destroyed in the attacks of September 11, 2001. On this occasion, they met the mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, and State Governor Kathy Hochul. They later participated in an interview with Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the American ambassador to the United Nations, in her New York apartment. Visiting Harlem

The Sussexes’ stay in New York continued the following Friday in Harlem. The couple attended PS 123 Mahalia Jackson School, a school that teaches kindergarten to grade two. Meghan Markle read a passage from her book there The Bench, to a CE1 class. “I wrote this when we had our baby boy and I haven’t read it to any other child except you!” Said the Duchess. She also dedicated her book “To The Man And The Little Boy Who Make (Her) Heart Go Boom”, explaining that this is how she explained to Archie how the heart works. Prince Harry, seated on the floor with the students, also listened to his wife’s story.
