On Saturday, July 2, in their historic home – Liepaja In Jūrmala Park, in the renovated concert garden “Blow wind!” the festival “Liepāja vasara” organized by the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra returned with an ambitious concert of opera music, Iveta Vēvere, head of public relations of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, informed the “Delfi” portal. Together with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, under the leadership of Atvaras Lakstīgala, the world-famous opera singers – Serbian soprano Marija played charming opera melodies Yelich, Italian tenor Dario di Vietri and our bass baritone Egils Silins.

It was heard at the opening concert of the festival Giuseppe Verdithe captivating opera melodies of Giacomo Puccini, Richard Wagner, Franz Lehard, Pietro Mascagni, Anton Rubinstein and Ruggero Leoncavallo.

The young diva of Serbian opera music Marija Jelić started a serious professional career only a few years ago, but has already won the hearts of listeners and critics in many countries of the world. Conductor Atvars Lakstīgala calls this singer one of Europe’s rising stars. Last year, Marija Jelich’s solo concert was received with enthusiastic reviews from critics in one of the most prestigious concert venues in the worldNew York’s Carnegie Hall. Marija Jelić graduated from the Mathematical Gymnasium and learned to play the flute and sing at the Kostas Manojlović Music High School. He continued his studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Belgrade, improving his singing skills with the leading soloist of the Belgrade Opera, Jasmina Trumbeta Petrović. In 2017, Maria joined the Opera Studio of the National Theater in Belgrade and has since won awards in both national and international singing competitions.

Legendary Luciano Pavarotti student Dario di Vietri won laurels and received significant reviews from critics in many prestigious world opera houses. He graduated from the Milan Conservatory and in 2009 made his professional debut as Pinkerton in Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Madama Butterfly”. Di Vietri has a phenomenal voice, with an impressive range and crystal clear upper notes delivered with power and ease. Critics believe that di Vietri can reach the professional heights of his compatriots Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo in the future.

The brightest Latvian bass-baritone Egils Siliņš is a laureate of ten international competitions, a three-time laureate of the Latvian Grand Music Prize and an officer of the Order of the Three Stars. Egils Siliņš gained world fame with the role of Mephistopheles in Gounod’s opera “Faust” at the Vienna State Opera in 1996. Conquered all the main opera houses of the world – Vienna State Opera, New York Metropolitan Opera, Milan La Scala, Paris Bastille Opera, London Covent Garden Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Berlin Deutsches Opera, Graz Opera, as well as many other world opera houses. He has also participated in the most prestigious music festivals, including the Bregenz, Tanglewood, Savonlinna and Glyndebourne festivals.

In the continuation of the “Liepāja vasara” festival, two more concerts are expected. On August 5, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will meet pianist Vestard Šimkus to the music of George Gershwin, and together with saxophonist Oskar Petrauski, they will play music from the famous film “Catch me if you can”. The future chief conductor of the orchestra, Guntis Kuzma, will be at the conductor’s desk. On the other hand, on August 27, for the first time, you will be able to enjoy the performance of the group “Pērkons” with a symphonic scope.

But still on July 30, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra invites you to enjoy the music festival “Liepāja sounds in the Rundāle Palace”, which this year will offer visitors four different events with a single thematic motif “Ball in the Palace”. There will be a concert talk with the participation of Vairas Vīke-Freibergas and Imantas Lancmanis. The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will give a concert under the direction of conductor Ainārs Rubikis. Families with children will have the opportunity to experience the concert performance “The Little Prince” for the first time. And in the night concert, the Liepāja String Quartet together with the clarinetist Gunti Kuzma will play Georg Peleč’s “Rundāle Quintet”.
