Starting from November 27, the exhibition “Collection Lines” of the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center will be on display in the concert hall. The exhibition consists of more than 20 paintings and objects created by 19 artists recognized both in Latvia and internationally.

This is the first time that the Rothko Center in Liepaja is exhibiting works from its large collection, and the exhibition is special in that the selection of works is designed and adapted especially for the “Big Amber” art space. As one of the creators of the exhibition, Zane Melāne, the main custodian of the Rothko Center, admitted:

Melis said what was added by Maris Čačka, the head of the Rothko Center: , thus creating this wonderful dialogue of the artist with the people of the cultural space of the particular environment who enjoy them. ”

Exhibition of works by international artists free of charge in the art hall of the concert hall Civita Nova will be available daily until January 28 next year.

On Saturday night, visitors experienced the rebirth of Argentine tango in the discovery-rich concert series “World in Great Amber”. The Belgian ensemble “Sonico” delighted the audience with their first performance in Latvia, which took the audience on a trip to Buenos Aires in the 1960s – a time when the traditional tango was dead, but two persistent composers fought for its rebirth.

The concert program featured the most popular compositions by Astor Piacolla and Eduardo Rovira, complemented by specially selected and rarely heard pearls created by composers – compositions that have not been performed for more than 60 years.

As the pianist of the ensemble Ivo De Grefs revealed in the concert: “Many of the scores of the compositions have not survived the floods and fires, so we – the members of the ensemble – recorded the parties ourselves, listening to old recordings, to bring them to light.”

The characteristic sound of the tango genre was given by the bandeone master Carmel Delgado, violinists Steven Maier and Daniel Urtado Himeness, viola Oscar Kinjoness, cellist Guillaume Lagravier, double bassist Ariel Deberstein, pianist Ivo De Graff and guitarist Camilo Cordoba.

At the end of the weekend, on Sunday, November 28, the concert series “Personally” was supplemented by the long-awaited concert program “Chamber Music by Trio Palladio”

During the evening, the audience experienced the mediocre of Rebecca Clark’s piano trio, the world premiere of the composition “Entaze” by the local composer Santas Ratniece. The trio dedicated the piano trio created by Gabriel Forre as a special gift to the audience.

Last week, the visitors of the Liepāja Concert Hall also had a unique opportunity to experience the visit of the award-winning and beloved actors of the “Dailes Theater” to “Big Amber” with the guest performances of the project “The Canon of Dailes” created by director Viesturs Kairiss.

In the first part of the evening, singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Jānis Šipkēvics and award-winning actor Juris Strengs provided viewers with a separate view on seemingly mundane topics important to the state and society through the lines of poetry written by Friedrich Nietzsche and the music created by Šipkēvics.

In the second part, pianist Agnese Egliņa and actress Lidija Pupure provided an insight into the world of modern women through the poetic lines of Aspazija and Zenta Mauriņa. The program was filled with Egliņa’s passionate piano playing and the narration felt by Pupure in the spiritually filled synergy of both ladies.
