Refueling is becoming more expensive. At least for a certain fuel.

So far, drivers actually had to pay two cents less for the Super E10 at the gas station than for the E5. This has an end now. The fuel with a higher bio-ethanol content now costs just as much as conventional petrol.

The reason for the surcharge at the petrol station is stricter environmental regulations. The Association of the Mineral Oil Industry (MWV) has stated that the legally required biofuel quota has been higher since January 1, 2020 than before.

Gas station / refueling: E10 no longer cheaper than E5

A spokesman: “At the beginning of the year, the greenhouse gas reduction rate to be met in road traffic rose from four to six percent. This requires a higher admixture of more expensive bio-components such as ethanol in gasoline. “

In plain language: Because E10 has a higher proportion of bioethanol than E5 Sprint, the prices here increase relatively more.

ADAC: “Strategic pricing of some oil companies”

Previously, the difference in price was usually between two and five cents per liter. An ADAC spokeswoman for “AutoBild”: “The price difference between E10 and E5 has narrowed since the beginning of the year.” And further: “Various factors are responsible for this, in particular we assume a strategic pricing of some mineral oil companies.”

According to ADAC, the result is “a tough struggle in pricing policy in the gas station sector.” However, this would not apply to all gas stations. “The companies pursue different strategies,” said the ADAC.

That is the difference between E5 and E10

  • A five percent share of bioethanol is added to the Super
  • That is why it is known as E5 or Eurosuper
  • Since 2011 there has also been Super with a bioethanol content of ten percent
  • This is the E10 variety
  • Previously, drivers usually paid two cents less for a liter of E10
  • The prices have been adjusted
  • Not all cars can fill up with the high ethanol content

Benefits of E10 eradicated

Bitter, however, since the advantages of E10 are now completely gone. The bio-fuel was also offered at a lower price to make drivers switch to the E10 permanently if the car was E10-compatible. Now, according to ADAC measurements, the use of E10 results in a slightly higher gasoline consumption on average.

So that means: If you fill up with E10 now, you have to expect to pay even more …

Have you ever noticed that the petrol gun and the diesel gun are different? The former has two pipes – the petrol flows through one, and the vapors are repelled through the other. This reduces the risk of fire, explains expert Thorsten Leonhardt “kabeleins Doku”. Interesting!

You save fuel with these tricks:

  • Optimize your driving style, accelerate briskly, shift up in time, maintain low engine speeds
  • Drive with foresight: braking wastes energy, so use the engine braking effect as long as possible
  • Avoid short distances: when the engine is cold, your car uses the most fuel
  • Turn off the engine while idling
  • Switch off unnecessary electrical consumers: Limit air conditioning or auxiliary heating to the necessary extent
  • Reduce the load and thus the total weight
  • Use energy-saving tires: you can save up to 0.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers
  • Pay attention to regular maintenance and the correct air pressure: if there is not enough air in your tires, your car will use more fuel

When was the most expensive fuel in 2019?

According to Clever-tanken.de, the prices for super are currently rising again. While the average price for the 100 largest cities in Germany at the same time in January 2019 was around 1.31 euros. The liter now costs – a year later – about ten cents more. (Mg)
