So far, drivers actually had to pay two cents less for the Super E10 at the gas station than for the E5. This has an end now. The fuel with a higher bio-ethanol content now costs just as much as conventional petrol.
The reason for the surcharge at the petrol station is stricter environmental regulations. The Association of the Mineral Oil Industry (MWV) has stated that the legally required biofuel quota has been higher since January 1, 2020 than before.

ADAC: “Strategic pricing of some oil companies”
Previously, the difference in price was usually between two and five cents per liter. An ADAC spokeswoman for “AutoBild”: “The price difference between E10 and E5 has narrowed since the beginning of the year.” And further: “Various factors are responsible for this, in particular we assume a strategic pricing of some mineral oil companies.”
According to ADAC, the result is “a tough struggle in pricing policy in the gas station sector.” However, this would not apply to all gas stations. “The companies pursue different strategies,” said the ADAC.
