Peruvian Credit Growth Shows Strong Expansion for Individuals and Mixed Results for Companies in April

Credit to the private sector – which includes loans granted by banks, finance companies, municipal and rural savings banks, and cooperatives – registered an interannual growth of 2.7 percent in April, while in monthly terms it increased 0.3 percent compared to March.

By segments, credit to individuals expanded 12.1 percent year-on-year in April, due to higher loans of this modality in soles that grew 13 percent year-on-year.

Regarding credit to companies, in April it fell 2.6 percent, which considers the impact of the amortizations and cancellations of Reactiva Peru’s loans in the period. Without considering these Program payments, loans to companies increased by 6.8 percent in April compared to the same month of the previous year.

In monthly terms, credit to companies increased by 0.1 percent in April and without considering Reactive, they did so by 0.8 percent.

By currency, the interannual growth rate of credit in soles was 0.6 percent in April; while the twelve-month expansion rate in dollars was 9.9 percent. In April, credit in soles increased 0.3 percent per month and in dollars, 0.5 percent per month.
