The company responsible for the vessel has activated it’s insurance and deployed boats to mark the location of the submerged containers. While some containers have been recovered, others sank and are scheduled for refloating in the coming days.
The Marina has stated that ther is no anticipated environmental impact, as none of the containers held hazardous materials. Though, a safety zone remains in effect until all submerged objects are removed. Maritime authority inspectors have launched an investigation into the incident, with a formal inquiry to be opened to determine the cause, which might potentially be attributed to a navigational error.
The captain of the port explained that the dense mist in the area could have exacerbated the risks associated with the floating containers, posing a collision hazard to other vessels. Photographs circulating in local media depict numerous containers at sea, some of which have opened, spilling their contents into the water.
