Peru: Jorge Muñoz on long lines at the Metropolitano: “He is exposed to the c

The mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz, indicated that the long lines of passengers in the Metropolitano, such as the one registered last Thursday around the Angamos station, expose citizens to a contagion of coronavirus (COVID-19).

“It is something that should not be given, what happened the other day we have to avoid it because what it does is expose citizens to contagion and that is something that cannot happen at a time like we are living,” Muñoz said upon leaving a meeting in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).

“What happened we have to avoid it and that has to be a commitment of both the Municipality of Lima and the concessionaires (of the Metropolitan),” added the mayor of Lima.

In addition, he indicated that on August 13 there were fewer buses in the Metropolitan and problems with some traffic lights, which generated “inadequate attention” to users. In the images published on social networks, it can be seen that the long line of passengers reached the track of the Vía Expresa de Paseo de la República.

Muñoz affirmed that this situation was generated because it was established that public transport buses only carry up to 50% of their passenger capacity to avoid COVID-19 infections.

“This was born from the day the state of emergency was declared, from that moment on it was requested that the transport vehicles carry up to the maximum of 50% and guarantee 50% of the passenger load, that passenger load in reality does not it went from 20% or 30%, and that generated differences that carriers have been assuming, ”he noted.
