Peru: Coronavirus | ESSALUD | Mother of God: doctors save child with COVID

Doctors from the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud), who work at the Víctor Alfredo Lazo Peralta hospital in Puerto Maldonado in the region , saved the life of a 4-year-old boy diagnosed with after extracting 1 kilo of parasites lodged in his small intestine that put his health at risk.

The minor arrived at the hospital with hemoglobin levels below the normal range that indicated anemia, lung lesions as a result of COVID-19, generalized sepsis and a history of having recently eliminated parasites via oral route.

After noting the seriousness of the case by confirming that the minor had a probable intestinal obstruction due to parasites, the EsSalud team of specialists took him to the operating room to intervene immediately.

From EsSalud it was reported that the patient had signs of dehydration, due to the fact that in the last hours he vomited on several occasions.

OPERATION

The surgeon Efraín Chura Chata, from the Red EsSalud Madre de Dios, indicated that together with his colleagues a successful operation was achieved. “The child is very well, he is happy to have recovered, I have seen him walking. When he got to the hospital he was very scared. His condition is favorable with very good evolution “he added.

Efraín Chura commented that this surgical procedure is called Exploratory Laparotomy, which lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes. “Doctors are still on guard, giving the best of themselves, to provide timely and quality care to Social Security insured”, he stated.
