Peru and Brazil advance to the semifinals America’s Cup 2021. Peru overthrow Paraguay on penalties. Meanwhile, Brazil overcame Chile’s fierce resistance.
Quarterfinal match America’s Cup 2021 Peru vs Paraguay opens at Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico, Saturday (3/7/2021) morning WIB. This match was fierce with a 3-3 draw closing 90 minutes. This resulted in the match having to be ended on penalties.
The fierceness of the match also made both teams have to play with 10 players. Paraguay lost Gustavo Gomez who got a second yellow card in the final minutes of the first half. Meanwhile, Andre Carrillo in the Peru camp suffered a similar fate in the 85th minute.
Paraguay took the lead through Gustavo Gomez in the 11th minute. However, Peru was able to close the first half by taking the lead through Gianluca Lapadula’s two goals (21 and 40′)
Junior Alonso again made the score draw after scoring a goal for Paraguay in the 54th minute. Drama then ensued in the last 10 minutes of the match.
Yoshimar Yotun gave Peru the upper hand thanks to his goal in the 80th minute. The score changed to 3-2 for Los Incas. But in the final minutes of the match, Gabriel Avelos’ goal made the duel determined in the penalty shootout.
In the high-fives round, two of Peru’s kickers, Santiago Omeno and Christian Chueva failed. Meanwhile, Paraguay had to bite after Hector Martinez, Samu and Albero Espinola failed to score through the white point. Peru made sure to win this match 5-4 in the penalty shootout.
Peru’s step to the semifinals was followed by host Brazil. The Selecao beat Chile 1-0 at the Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos.
Lucas Paqueta became the hero of Brazil’s victory thanks to his goal in the 46th minute. In this match, Brazil had to play with 10 players after Gabriel Jesus got a red card in the 48th minute. Despite being outnumbered, Tite’s troops were able to maintain their lead until the match was over.
Brazil and Peru will meet in the semifinals on 6 July. Two other tickets in the semifinals will still be up for grabs in the duels Argentina vs Ecuador and Uruguay vs Colombia which will be held on July 4 tomorrow.
