Doer beheading a history teacher at French is an 18 year old teenager who is a migrant from Chechnya.
As reported Associated PressOn Saturday (17/10), the authorities also arrested nine other suspects in the incident, including the grandfather, parents and relatives of the perpetrator who was 17 years old.
The victim who was a history teacher, Samuel Paty, was murdered in the small town of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine.
The perpetrator carrying a knife and a toy gun was shot dead by police. Because, he refused to give up and managed to fire a plastic bullet at the police.
The trigger was that he had a chance to hold a discussion about caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, in class. A number of parents of students then protested against Paty because the Prophet Muhammad SAW, was a sacred figure and could not be described in a caricature.
A police source said Paty received threats after opening the discussion.
“The teacher was threatened after opening a discussion ‘to argue’ about the cartoon (of the Prophet Muhammad) about 10 days ago,” said the police official, who was not identified because he was not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation.
French investigators opened an investigation into the alleged terrorism in the incident.
French President, Emmanuel Macron, came to the scene after the incident and called it a terror attack.
“One of our colleagues was murdered today because of what he taught, freedom of speech and freedom to believe and not believe,” said Macron.
A number of Chechen residents moved to France after the region was engulfed in war by two insurgencies in the 1990s and early 2000s.
In France, a number of immigrants from Chechnya have founded gangs and are involved in a fixing action.
