Perfect weekend: VC Dresden close to relegation

Dresden. The second division volleyball players at VC Dresden had a perfect weekend. Already on Saturday, the team of coach Niklas Peisl prevailed in the important relegation game against TuS Kriftel with 3: 0 (25:19, 25:23, 25:21). The same evening they went traveling, because the team at FT Freiburg was challenged on Sunday. The Elbestädter, this time supervised by VC sports director Sven Dörendahl, also solved the difficult task with their neighbors in the Breisgau with flying colors. They won again 3-0 (25:21, 25:20, 25:23).

The VC men overtook Freiburg and climbed to ninth place in the table. The lead over the relegation ranks has also grown significantly, so that the Dresdeners have come a lot closer to staying in class.

Dörendahl went into raptures – and that is rare for him: “I have never experienced a weekend like this in the eleven years that I have been in Dresden. It was very nice to see our young team’s leap in performance. The troops made a very solid impression in both games. I’m excited.”

The VC team already offered one of the best games of the season against Kriftel. With powerful serves, successful attacks from stable acceptance and a strong block defense, the VC men showed themselves to be superior. After just 72 minutes, VC captain Paul Schneider transformed the match point. The Elbestädter also took revenge for the 1: 3 defeat in the first leg.

The Saxons also delivered strongly in Freiburg. In the first two sentences they clearly dictated what would happen. When it got tighter in the third round, they didn’t let themselves be disturbed, but instead punched their way through.

Sebastian Rösler was chosen as MVP for both games. “That shows that we played very well across the middle. In both games we pulled the teeth of our opponents with a strong block defense, ”praised Dörendahl. The defeat was obviously particularly frustrating for Freiburg, because assistant coach Wolfgang Beck then attacked the referees so hard that he saw red.
