NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has released a video of Perseverance’s landing on Mars and the first recorded sound of the Martian wind. In a video of about 3 minutes, Percivirence opens a parachute and lands on the red surface of Mars.
On the 22nd (local time), NASA released a video of Percivirence’s landing on Mars on its website. The video contains Percivirence’s’Seven Minutes of Horror’, which successfully landed on Mars on the 18th. It refers to the process of entering, descending, and landing (EDL) in the atmosphere, which requires advanced technology.
After entering Mars orbit, Percivirence parachutes at a height of about 11 km from the surface of Mars. It descends at a speed of over 1500 km/h, and the red surface of Mars is captured in the video.
“We finally got to see Percivirence’s successful ‘7 minutes of horror’ in the front row,” said Michael Watkins, a researcher at the Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL). “From the explosive opening of the parachute to the dust and debris on landing. Even this flying scene arouses awe.”
Percivirance is an example known as the lower region of an ancient lake, and for the first time ever captured the sound of Martian wind in the crater (Jezero Crater). The voice file released by NASA is 18 seconds long, and includes the machine sound of Percidence.
