In a moderately good book year, it is understandable that the jury has chosen to nominate a debutant for the Brage Prize for best fiction book.

I grew up almost like my own by Per Marius Weidner-Olsen excels with high intensity and unusual perspectives. Among the nominees, I think the novel written by the late Beate Grimsrud has a higher quality. But this book definitely belongs on any shortlist of good Norwegian books from 2020. Last week we included it in Aftenposten’s overview of this autumn’s best books so far.
