People won’t go to a bad city / GORDON

He said this, responding to the claims of the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexei Danilov, who said earlier in an interview Radio Svobodathat the “magic city” Kiev is turning into a hamlet, in it “some are okay.”

“This is a politicized statement. I am very glad, for example, that the territory near the Golden Gate was included in the 16 best locations in the world. There is a lot of good news. I am changing the city. And during this time, 400 parks and squares have appeared. Last year, the city’s inhabitants increased by 200 thousand. People will not go to a bad city, “Klitschko explained.

He noted that one of the reasons for the arrival of people in Kiev – “the city gives work.”

“There are a lot of challenges. There are people who see the positive. I joke about this like flies and bees: bees look for flowers, and flies look for something completely different. That is, you can treat differently. But I do everything to ensure that our the city developed, “- said Klitschko.

Context:

Klitschko became the mayor of Kiev in June 2014.

In 2003, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine decided that the Kyiv City State Administration should be headed by a person who was elected as the mayor. In November 2010, the fourth president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, divided these positions, as a result of which the mayor Leonid Chernovetsky was replaced as head of the city administration by Alexander Popov. In 2014, after Klitschko’s victory in the elections for the mayor of Kiev, the fifth president, Petro Poroshenko, appointed him head of the Kyiv City State Administration.

After the coming to power of President Volodymyr Zelensky and his team, relations between the central government and the capital soured.

The Verkhovna Rada on October 3, 2019 adopted the draft law in the first reading №2143-3 “About the city of Kiev – the capital of Ukraine”. The bill proposes divide powers and positions the mayor of Kiev and the head of the Kyiv City State Administration, who “will oversee the observance of the Constitution and laws of Ukraine by local authorities and coordinate the activities of territorial bodies of central executive bodies.”

In August 2021, Klitschko announced an attempt to discredit him, remove from office the head of the Kyiv City State Administration and change to “stray henchman”… In the same month, the media reported that the Minister for the Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Alexei Chernyshov could be appointed the head of the Kyiv City State Administration, but he denied it.

On October 20, the profile committee recommended to the Rada accept on second reading the bill “On the city of Kiev – the capital of Ukraine”. Parliament is likely to consider the document in the end of November, said the people’s deputy from the “Servant of the people”, a member of the committee on the organization of state power Vitaly Bezgin.
