“People get confused and don’t know what to do.” Some drivers still do not know what to do in the presence of emergency transport – Apollo.lv – Auto – Apollo.lv – iTech

The situation is generally improving every year, but in some cases the public is not sufficiently informed about what to do, such as when accompanying a column.

“If the columns are escorted, the situation is very bad, complicated. When the emergency transport with red and blue lights and an audible signal, the drivers have forgotten that in that case the transport has to stop on the right side of the road and wait for the service to pass. And only then you can start moving, “reminded the head of the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) in the team of medical specialists Jānis Parādnieks.

There are drivers who believe that if they do not start the emergency vehicle, nothing bad will happen. But there are also those on the road who are just not careful. Emergency medical teams are exposed to such behavior quite often.

“People are confused by the situation and do not know what to do the moment they hear this beep and see the beacons,” said Valdis Sutra, a driver in the NMPD team.

The most common accidents occur at road junctions, especially where there are several lanes in one direction.

“Maybe the driving school should be more informative for new drivers, play around these situations to know what to do in it,” said the driver Sutra.

In addition, emergency services often face inconveniences and difficulties in getting to the scene, as car owners are placed in the courtyards of high-rise buildings in such a way that large vehicles, such as firefighters, cannot be missed. But it can cost someone’s life.

Mareks Tipa, a representative of the State Fire and Rescue Service, says that most of the time we drive to the sites with at least three cars – two tanks and one car ladder.

“It is difficult to get all these resources to the scene because of these parked cars. When we can’t get through, rescuers get out of the car. It can be up to 100-200 meters from the event and then we start pulling fire hoses to the scene, which requires a lot. time compared to if we could drive to the scene right here, “said Tipa.

The difficulty of getting out of the yard for transport could be ascertained with the rescue service. It took one minute and 18 seconds to get past the parked cars in a Purvciems yard.

“It is more difficult to drive where there are curves or intersections. I urge drivers to choose a more remote place to park their cars,” said a SFRS representative.

Firefighters also have special equipment at their disposal – how to overcome obstacles, but it also takes time. This year alone, the Riga Municipal Police (RPP) has issued almost two thousand protocols for improper stopping and standing in the yards of houses.

“Violations of the rules of stopping and parking are observed in most of the yards of Riga apartment buildings, but control of these types of violations is not really a priority of the RPP, mostly the police come to these yards after a call from the residents,” said RPP representative Toms Sadovskis.

Last year, the fire and rescue service called more than three thousand three hundred times for a call to a multi-storey house.
