“People Do Wear Masks, But Why Are They Even Releasing When Talking?” All pages

DEPOK, KOMPAS.com – The head of the Depok City Health Office, Novarita, admitted that he was concerned about the low compliance of Depok residents with regards to transmission prevention protocols Covid-19.

In addition, many residents still do not wear it face mask when in public, there are a number of residents who are not serious about wearing masks.

In particular, he highlighted the behavior of people who travel with masks but take them off when chatting.

“You have to wear a mask properly, please. It’s a small thing. I like the feeling that people come out wearing masks. But, oh, when we talk, why are they opened?” said Novarita when contacted Kompas.com, Wednesday (12/8/2020) evening.

“In fact, it should have been closed, so when we talked, the droplets (droplets) came out of the mouth,” he added.

Novarita believes this non-compliance is one of the reasons for the soaring positive cases of Covid-19 in Depok over the past 2 weeks.

After the easing of the PSBB, people started crowding in public places making it difficult to maintain distance. Plus it’s not right to wear a mask.

“Now, people are wearing masks. But it’s the turn to chat, open up. It’s just the same as lying. Now wearing the mask is on the chin, no one is in the mouth,” he said.

He believes, if residents obey using masks properly, the growth rate of Covid-19 cases in Depok could at least slow down.

“That’s why, if in public, don’t eat while chatting, huddle. If we are in public places we keep chatting, while we take off our masks, it’s a risk. We don’t know that among so many people there is only one OTG ( people without symptoms) right, “explained Novarita.

Novarita’s expression is actually relevant to the situation everywhere, because it is not only in Depok that this behavior is plural.

Epidemiologist from the University of Indonesia, Pandu Riono, had a similar message when the office cluster began to spread in Jakarta.

“The key is to be vigilant. Don’t stay in the office too long, don’t chat too long in the office. Wear a mask when chatting. Even chat is long distance,” said Pandu when contacted on July 28, 2020.

“People often enter the office, meet their friends, they take off their masks. Even though they don’t know where their houses are,” he added.

Pandu said, not a few people were careless during recess and took off their masks.

At the cafeteria dining table, for example, when everyone is eating, no one is wearing a mask.

However, even without a mask, the table mates who are close by are actually talking to each other.

“We are not suuzon (prejudice). We also do not know whether we ourselves are affected by Covid-19 or not. So, using a mask protects you and protects me,” he continued.
