La Salle College Claims Pennsylvania 6A Football Championship
MECHANICSBURG, PA – After falling short a year ago, the La Salle College Explorers are now Pennsylvania’s Class 6A football champions. La Salle defeated Pittsburgh Central Catholic 34-20 at Chapman Field in Mechanicsburg to secure their second state title in program history, the first coming in 2009.
The Explorers’ victory was fueled by a dominant performance from Notre Dame signee Joey O’Brien. O’Brien intercepted three passes, including an 84-yard pick-six that sealed the win for La Salle. He also contributed on offense, throwing a touchdown pass in the third quarter as the Explorers extended their lead to 21-7.
La Salle quarterback Gavin Sidwar, a Missouri signee, also played a key role, completing passes for two touchdowns.
This championship run marked a notable turnaround for the Explorers, who avenged a district tournament loss from the 2024 season by defeating St. Joseph’s Prep earlier in the postseason. The 2025 campaign culminates in a state championship and a likely No. 1 ranking in Pennsylvania, capping off a season of achieving goals and securing redemption.
