Penélope Cruz receives the 2022 National Film Award for “enriching Spanish cultural heritage”
The Ministry of Culture and Sports has awarded the 2022 National Film Award to the Spanish actress, Penélope Cruz Sánchez, at the unanimous proposal of the jury. The award granted “for the successes harvested in 2021”accumulates a value of 30,000 euros.

Actress Penelope Cruz has won the National Film Award for the year 2022, which, as expected, will pick up next September, at the San Sebastian Festival. The jury has unanimously awarded the award after a 2021 full of international successes, taking into account that last year she became the first Spanish performer to win the Volpi Cup at the Venice Festival, in addition to her fourth nomination for the awards Oscar, what “it elevates her as the most nominated Spanish actress in history”.
The jury has described Cruz’s film career as “exceptional“also pointing out awards such as the award for best female performance at the Cannes Festival, for the film ‘Return‘, the Oscar for best supporting actress, an honorary Cesar, the Donostia Award in San Sebastián, and three Goya awards out of the thirteen nominations for which she has been nominated.
According to the jury’s decision, the actress is “one of the visible heads of a generation, that of the 90s”which meant a renewal of national cinema, forming part of emblematic films that have achieved international presence. “Since then, his enormous talent and versatility have opened the doors for him to collaborate with filmmakers from all over the world while also maintaining a firm link with Spanish cinema”declared the jury in the motivation.
With the delivery of the award that highlights the most outstanding in the Spanish cinematographic field, the jury, chaired by the general director of the ICAA, Beatriz Navas, recognizes the commitment of the interpreter and the “excellence in your work”. “She has created some of the most unforgettable characters in our cinema. For all these reasons, Penélope Cruz is an iconic actress whose brilliant legacy enriches the Spanish cultural heritage”.
