Penalty for driving without OCTA has significantly increased for certain vehicle classes – Apollo.lv – Auto – Apollo.lv – iTech

From July 1, penalties for the use of a truck over 12 tons and a bus over 12 tons in road traffic without MTPL have been significantly increased.

“If so far the drivers or owners of the mentioned vehicles received a fine from 85 to 120 euros for using the vehicle without MTPL, then the new procedure envisages a multiple increase of the fine,” informed Jānis Abāšins, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Motor Insurers’ Bureau (LTAB). He also adds that those amendments were made in the light of the relatively high risk factors for those vehicles.

The changes in the law also provide: if a trading company (merchant) to which a vehicle has been put for sale will use it without a valid MTPL, a penalty of 350 – 650 euros will be imposed on it.

From now on, the administrative penalty for the use of a vehicle in road traffic without MTPL will be calculated in fine units, determining that 1 unit is equivalent to 5 EUR.

According to the new Law on Administrative Liability, it should be taken into account that if one person has committed two or more administrative violations, the administrative penalty is applied separately for each violation, and if several administrative violations are committed with the same act, the administrative penalty is applied for each violation.
