Peio Gonzalez learned to make chisteras from an early age, with his father Jean-Louis Gonzalez. It is a multifaceted job: you need to have skills in cabinetmaking for the work of the framework and the ribs of instruments in chestnut, then in basketry, and also the saddlery for cowhide or goat leather which provides support for the hand and which is sewn in the last stage of manufacture.
The manufacture of chisteras is a traditional profession, moreover in 2018 the Gonzalez family obtained the “EPV” label, Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, a label which recognizes the excellence of French know-how.
Bixente, Peio’s son, will join the company in the course of 2022. He is finishing his studies in communication and management, and he wants to use social networks to develop the company, in giving it even more visibility.
